Casting Call ..... Les Miserables
My taste for music was born in the movies but little by little my love for theater grew (musical or not) and point which definitely peaked for me was to see Les Miserables , I have seen this work at least 6 times. The story of Jean Valjean as much as I liked music that led me to read the book by Victor Hugo and so every time someone claims to be an avid reader and mocks all those who loved the novels of by Dan Brown easy two-page chapters, I just laughed because surely have not read Victor Hugo and his 3-page chapters.
Among the many things we share Beaver and I in many years of friendship, one of them is our love for Les Miserables so when I passed the first link of the 25 th anniversary concert of the work, I knew that was a dvd I had to buy.
Needless to say, the recent acquisition of the concert was one of the best shopping in months for my growing collection and made me want to do a casting call but with certain differences. My Casting Call will not be musical adaptation and I want to keep the European fully cast (if I can with French actors better)
Jean Valjean - Christoph Waltz
Put it to exercise in order to have the physical strength of character and the Oscar winner is perfect for the role. A man who after 19 years of age behind bars can not escape his dark past no matter how many good deeds done. The user-friendly language proficiency that has Waltz is what I would call attention to see a German playing a Frenchman.
Javert - Mathieu Amalric
His role as the villain in Quantum of Solace is what gives me the certainty that a man can do that not bad by nature but a man totally wedded to the law to its limits but it was his holdings in Munich and especially in The Diving Bell & The Buttefly are definitely no other in my mind to play a character that represents the inevitability of human beings to pay for their mistakes.
Archbishop Myriel - Niels Arestrup
A small character but of great importance in the life of Valjean has to be interpreted by what I consider one of the best French players there right now (although it has year career), but believe me, see it in A Prophet which swept every award in their country.
Fantine - Louise Bourgoin
A beautiful young woman coming at least as hard in his life. If you have not seen the latest film by Luc Besson called The Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec (which foolishly and as usual in Mexico was called The Mummies of the Pharaoh) rentenla yourselves a favor and to see a female version of Indiana Jones that definitely could give all the character of Fantine
Cosette - Melanie Laurent
The beautiful adopted daughter of Jean Valjean who, after living a horrible childhood near Thenadier and next few years moving from town to town with his father, finally meets the love and have a rebellion teenager with his father while his beloved French fight in the rebellion. Melanie has the grace to interpret even teenagers aged 27 and actress who gave us the courage Shoshana Dreyfuss in Inglourious Basterds can inject the character with innocence and rebellion.
Monsieur et Madame Thenadier - Matt Lucas and Yolande Moreau
My favorite characters in the musical and the book! This pair of louts bastards whose only motivation is to move forward with the least effort and with the greatest amount of money needed that touch of comedy and malice. Honestly, my choice for Monsieur Thenadier was different but after watching British comedian Matt Lucas (see Little Britain on BBC, do not stop laughing), its characterization as the chameleon character of the 25 th anniversary concert made me realize that easily achieves what the character needs and if you look very young, behold the wonder of Matt Lucas lends his face and buried in makeup as you do on your show and to top it speaks perfect French.
Meanwhile Yolande Moreau is one of those actresses who achieve wonders serious when they do comic roles as we demonstrated in Amelie and Mic-Macs and would make a good pairing with Lucas.
Marius Pontmercy - Tahar Rahim
Another who impressed me with A Prophet, Tahar has this strange little French side but could play the billionaire grandson of a noble and that their ideals leaves the nest and mix with the people until it ends up being key the uprising.
Enjorlas - Nicolas Giraud
This young actor we've seen in The Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec and Taken alongside Liam Neesson (curiously Jean Valjean in the movie of the 90's) has the attitude and the face that could convince many to join the rebellion.
Eponine - Mirrah Foulkes
Thenadier The little dramatic love lives even when Marius falls in love with Cosette. The only British woman in my cast, thanks to his small but showy role in Animal Kingdom (another of those movies that few people saw but everyone should see it).
